How many people with Moses in the desert?

I'm trying to get some idea of approximately how many people were with Moses in the desert. All I can find is "a multitude". Does anyone have resources that say how many?

In the Book of Numbers, Chapter 1 gives the number tribe by tribe. Add them up to find out.

The Number of People with Moses

In answer to the question of how many people were with Moses in the desert. the Book of Numbers chapter two tells us that the number of men of age for military service was 603,500 but this is only the men and does not include the tribe of Levi as Moses was ordered not to count them!

Based on that number and factoring in the women and children most scholars estimate that it was between 1-1.5 million people.
